Pierhead, Cardiff Bay

Heritage

DCA developed from first concept to opening, a new visitor, interpretative and exhibition scheme for the Grade I Pierhead building in Cardiff’s inner harbour for the Assembly Commission of the National Assembly for Wales. We developed a mixed economy for the building, telling its stories through imaginative new interpretation for a wide audience at the same time as fitting out the building to earn its keep from the hosting of events, conferences, gatherings and learning programmes.

The Pierhead opened in 2010 and is now established as a national focus for debate and discussion of the big challenges and ideas that will form the future Wales. Despite its rather ‘closed’ outside appearance and the dedication of space regularly to events and receptions, the building has regularly attracted over 100,000 visitors a year since its reopening.
