Insole Court

Building projects Heritage

We have been working with the Insole Court Trust for the last four years to restore and relaunch Insole Court and gardens in Llandaff, Cardiff, as a heritage attraction and community resource.

Working with the Trustees, Cardiff Council and Purcell architects, we helped crystallise the vision for the Court and its gardens, draw up plans for a £4.5m programme of works – heritage restoration and new build community facilities – and complete all funding applications to secure more than £3.5m (including £2.1m of HLF Heritage Grant) in a very short period.

With the Trust we have developed a sustainable business model with varied earned income streams and varied roles for the pool of already committed volunteers. We have helped too in developing wider community engagement and the heritage interpretation. For the successful HLF Round 2 we prepared the business and activity plans and the application itself.

Now on site, there have been unexpected and exciting heritage finds in the main house, which will mean that the project will offer still more as a heritage attraction when it opens in Spring 2016.
