Derby Museums

Heritage Organisational Development

In 2012, we worked with Derby Museums in the period leading up to transfer to trust, to prepare the Trust’s first business plan for readiness for transfer on 1 October 2012. Commissioned by Derby City Council, the trustee recruitment process was completed during the early part of our work and the trustees then engaged with us in the business planning process, alongside museum staff. Our work included consolidating work on vision and aims and objectives, detailed financial planning, undertaking a market appraisal and income generation from retail and catering.

We also advised on an Arts Council strategic funds application and the development of Derby Silk Mill, one of Derby Museums three sites. We worked alongside the Derby Silk Mill development planning team and, with fundraising consultants Development Partners, advised on preparing a Heritage Grant application for realising ambitions for the Silk Mill.

The Silk Mill has now had a successful Round 1 pass for a major batch HLF grant.
