Cornerstone, Didcot

Arts Building projects

We were lead consultants for the creation of a new £6m arts and cultural centre for the town of Didcot. The Centre, Cornerstone, has a 260 seat flexible theatre, café, gallery and arts development spaces.

The project was a key part of a masterplan for the renewal of the town centre and commands and animates a new town square. Its programmes combine national and international touring work with the best and most extensive facilities for local people of all ages and backgrounds.

DCA’s work guided all aspects of the project and defined a model for the new centre that had the potential to generate incomes while serving community needs and remaining affordable for all.  Key to our work was detailed and extensive consultation and the building of relationships with user groups and community representatives. We translated this into a vision for the new centre, which was also tested against detailed market appraisal and subjected to rigorous business planning.

The project opened to acclaim and huge success with audiences in 2009 and has gone from strength to strength since.
