Compton Verney

Arts Heritage Organisational Development

Our work for Compton Verney, from 2008 to present started with business planning to meet the challenge of a 50% funding cut, based on growing visitor numbers (requiring more market focused programming and more use of the grounds); income diversification into conferencing and events; and a leaner organisational model. We supported the transition with organisational culture change workshops to prepare staff to meet the organisation’s new goals.

In 2011, the first post-change year, Compton Verney achieved record levels of visitors and income (tickets and memberships, catering and retail).

We then moved on then to advise on a fairly small scale reconfiguration of some of the ground floor to support more catering, retail and events space, part financed through the Arts Council’s Sustain programme.

We have also helped with planning and implementing changes in the grounds – a new charging structure and pay-perimeter, new interpretation and family-friendly attractions. More recently, we advised on business and activity planning for the successful HLF Round 1 for the grounds to bring to life the Capability Brown landscape for 21 century visitors and provide new visitor welcome and introductory interpretation.

Now on site, the project will come alive during 2016, Capability Brown’s tricentenary.
