Bath and North East Somerset

Possibly the most financially successful heritage operation in the country, BA&NES generates a £4m surplus – much of it through around a million visits to the Roman Baths – a year. We worked alongside the team to review how this performance could be maintained and potentially further improved.

Our recommendations included some governance change, maximising the benefits of partial trust status, developments in retail and catering, an online ticketing and admissions strategy, some fundraising initiatives (including developing a ‘friends of Bath Heritage’ model) and generally focusing on how the service can continue to meet its cultural and heritage objectives while securing income from its customers and supporters. Follow up work included capital redevelopment proposals for Victoria Arts Gallery.
