Artists Insights & Inhabit
ARTISTS INSIGHTS
Artists Insights is a major Arts Council England development project. The project is made up of six separate strands, which together aim to identify and provide artists with the tools to address common challenges and obstacles to creative and professional development.
Inhabit, which focuses on creative workspace, is one of these six strands. The others focus on: artists and the law (Interpret), improving financial well-being for artists (Influence), creative renewal for mid career artists (Invigorate), awareness raising amongst of artists skills (Inform), and innovative placements in industry (Interact). See the Arts Council England website for more about these strands.
INHABIT
Creative workspace is essential to creative production and Inhabit
aims to:
* Help create a healthy infrastructure of sustainable workspaces available for artists and accessible to local communities
* Increase awareness of the social, cultural and economic value of artist workspaces
* Increase public and private investment in artist workspace
* Improve access to creative workspace for BME and disabled artists
Towards these ambitions Inhabit is working around the key themes of
financing workspace, assessing the cultural, social and economic value of workspace, developing the tools for disseminating knowledge and know how and influencing policy makers and investors.
A key first step has been a national stocktake of existing creative workspace in England - a benchmarking and issue identification exercise - from which the findings are now available.
